Local 17 Converts Boston Convention Center into Temporary COVID-19 Hospital
Brothers and Sisters,
This is a critical moment for our health system — and Local 17 members are stepping up to help.
As COVID-19 strains our hospitals and medical centers, our members went above and beyond to convert the Boston Convention Center into an enormous 1,000-bed temporary hospital this week.
The stakes were high and we had limited time. In just a 3-day window, our members with J.C. Cannistraro prepared the Convention Center’s HVAC air system to keep everyone safe and prevent the spread of airborne diseases.
Together, members worked around the clock, adding filtration to the air circulation system, modifying rooftop ventilation units, and preparing isolation rooms. And they did it all in time for patients to start arriving tomorrow.
We’re immensely proud of all of those who answered the call and made this important effort a success.
Thanks to our work, thousands of people are going to get the care they need.
In solidarity,
Bob Butler
