Effective May 1, 2021: Northeast Regional Council Bylaws
Brothers and Sisters,
As we prepare to form the SMART Northeast Regional Council, it’s important for us to be clear and forthcoming in sharing the goals and processes for this new governing body. As a Regional Council, we will aim to create a united front among our Locals, building our power in the region and partnering with our contractors to increase employment opportunities for our collective workforce.
As stated in the bylaws, I have been appointed by General President Joseph Sellers to serve as Council President, and Russell Bartash has been appointed to serve as Financial Secretary/Treasurer. We will head the Executive Committee with the following officers appointed by General President Sellers: Pat McCormack, Paul Conners, Mike Matthews, Jason Wright, Sean Langton-Hayward, John Nimmons, Fred Descy, Mike LaFleur, and Kyle Violette.
I encourage you to take a few minutes and read the bylaws for more information on the Council’s jurisdiction, general powers, and election process, as well as the duties of the appointed leadership.
While these bylaws bring some new changes, the following will not be affected by the new Council structure:
- Our Local collective bargaining agreement (CBA) will still be in effect, including holding regular Union meetings. Please note that for the safety of all and to comply with state COVID-19 laws and guidelines, we cannot have union meetings at this time.
- Our member benefits, including your pensions and health coverage, will stay the same and remain under the Local 17 Funds.
- Our level of representation and commitment to you and your family will not waver.
Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to building our Council together.
In Solidarity,
Bob Butler
