Action needed today to close the offsite fabrication wage loophole!

Right now there’s a legal loophole that allows contractors to pay workers in fabrication shops less than their counterparts in the field, shorting hardworking people of equal pay for equal work, and giving honest contractors who pay all workers the correct rate a disadvantage when bidding on projects. There is a new legislative path to close the offsite fabrication prevailing wage tax loophole. Even if you’ve taken action on this issue in the past, we need to submit new letters to get this amendment passed.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives is currently considering Amendment #77 to the Economic Development bill, an amendment that would close this loophole, ensuring offsite fabrication shops must comply with prevailing wage laws. Take action and tell your representative that you want to get this bill passed to protect workers’ rights.

If this amendment passes it would prevent unscrupulous contractors from cheating workers out of hard-earned wages. Equal work deserves equal pay, and taxpayer money should be spent paying workers a living wage that supports our economy. Click this link to write your representative and tell them to close the prevailing wage loophole.
